Menomonee Falls/Hamilton, an up-and-coming team, dominated the field at the Early Bird Invite Saturday at Wauwatosa West HS, sweeping all three relays and picking up two individual wins on its way to the team title. The MF/H co-op scored 447 points to easily top the field; Burlington scored 318.5 to top Waukesha West/Catholic Memorial for second place.
MF/H ran away with the relays, sweeping the 200 medley and 200/400 free relays by a combined 16-plus seconds. Star sophomore Cassie Stegner added a win in the 100 free, while junior Rachel Koch picked up a win in the 200 IM.
Runner-up Burlington got wins from senior Jenna Hotvedt in the 500 free and a solid debut from freshman Morgan Dietzel, who took the 100 back.
Brookfield Central got a double win from senior Gwen Gustafson -- she edged Stegner in the 50 free (Gustafson is the defending D1 state champ in the event), and added a win in the 100 fly.
Other winners on the day: New Berlin West's Paige Pelikan took the 200 free; freshman Irene Wilson took the 100 breaststroke for the Hartford/Slinger co-op; and Kelly Kornfeld of Divine Savior took the diving competition.
